Christmas 2009

Unfortunately I left my camera at home and have absolutely NO pictures of Christmas this year...uuugggghhhh!! We had a great or I should say we had 6 great Christmases this year. Lots of food, fun and fellowship. I must admit that I am glad it is over though. Having to travel to 5-6 different places in a span of just a few days gets overwhelming, but once again we made it through another year. I spent yesterday taking down the tree and cleaning the house. Today I will spend washing clothes, grocery shopping and packing. The 4 of us (me, the hubby and the girls) are ringing in the New Year at the lake...just the 4 of us. I am really looking forward to it. We come home Sunday and the girls go back to school on Tuesday.

I have been thinking alot about 2010 and the "resolutions" that I want to make and plan to keep. My friend Lianna had a lot of good ones on her blog and I thought, "wow, those are really good!" I even decided to do a couple of them myself. Here are mine.

  • start getting into shape and lose about 30 lbs
  • get back into church (maybe even find another one)
  • be more organized (I wish I was a little OCD)
  • be a better blogger and post more pictures!! :)

I hope everyone (the few that come across my little blog) has a very safe and Happy New Year! I wish you all the best for 2010!!!

Thanksgiving

This has got to be my favorite time of the year. I love the sights, sounds and smells of this time of year. I especially love the fact that we get to spend time with family. Tomorrow we are going to my parents house to eat with my grandparents, sister, niece, cousins and aunts and uncles. We usually have way too much food and are miserable because we eat too much. The next day I always go shopping with my mom and my grandmother. We shop all day long...It has kind of become a tradition. This year a friend of mine is going with us and my sister and niece are going too. I have quit taking my girls because they are at that age where they get bored and start wanting to go home, plus there are so many people, it makes me a nervous wreck.

On to something else. Being thankful. I have so much to be thankful for. I have two happy and healthy girls. A wonderful husband, who I cannot imagine my life without. He loves me faults and all. I could not ask for more. I have a great family, both immediate and in-laws. I have a roof over my head and vehicles to drive. I am doing something I love. I am substitute teaching and getting to be home with my girls. I am truely blessed beyond measure. I hope each and everyone one of you who happen to come across my little blog and read this post have a great Thanksgiving and enjoy those who you are blessed to share it with. Don't forget to be THANKFUL!!!

PS. For those of you braving the shoppers on Black Friday, be careful and have a great time!!

Our Girls

Here are some pictures that I took of our girls at the National Forest and a friends house....I am going to give some of these as Christmas presents and use one for a Christmas card. These are just a few of the ones that I took....I am so proud of the way our girls have turned out. They are beautiful on the inside and out and I could not ask for two better girls. Them and their daddy are the absolute loves of my life and I do not know what I would do without them.

Happy Birthday Kristyn!!

Today is my oldest daughters 12th birthday. Twelve years ago I became a mom for the first time and I must say that it is the greatest, most rewarding & fulfilling thing I have ever done. Kristyn and Ryleigh have brought such joy to our lives. Kristyn has grown into a beautiful young lady both inside and out and I am so proud to call her MINE!!

We love you very much and thank God for you everyday!! I hope that all of your hopes and dreams come true and just know that your daddy and I are here for you always!!

Busy, Busy Busy...

WOW!! It sure has been a long time since I have written on my blog. Between the girls being in school, me subbing at the schools, softball tournaments, practice and just life in general, we have stayed pretty busy to say the least. I wouldn't trade a thing....I absolutely LOVE my life and all that it entales.

On to other things now.....I don't know where everyone who reads this lives or what your weather has been like, but here in Tx, the weather has been absolutely BEAUTIFUL, with the exception of yesterday when it poured and was cloudy all day due to the cold front coming through. As I sit here typing this post and looking out the window, I keep thinking I need to get up and get ready and go do something. I think I may go to Kohl's and get this shirt that I want and wear it tonight..Oh yea, about tonight. A friend of ours is coming in from Louisiana. He and I grew up in the same neighborhood and he graduated with my hubby. We are meeting ALOT of people we grew up with and went to school with tonight. It started out small, but has now grown to probably over 100 people....people are coming all the way from Austin & College Station. Speaking of College Station, one of my husbands best friends in school was Kerri. We have not seen her in years and now she lives in College Station. Well, she is coming down for the get together and she and I have made plans to surprise Doodle tonight. I told him that I wanted to go out to eat before we went to the get together and asked Kerri to meet up to surprise him. I cannot wait to see the look on his face. I plan on taking my camera tonight and get lots of pics... hopefully.

Well, it is almost 9:00 am and I need to get up and get dressed so I can go get that shirt I want... hope everyone enjoys their day!!!!

Substitute Teaching & Oklahoma

Well, I started substitute teaching this week. They called me on Monday to see if I could come in for 1/2 a day but Ryleigh was at home so I could not go in on Monday. I did go in on Tuesday for a 6th grade class, which happend to be Kristyn's English class. Yesterday I subbed for 7th & 8th grade....I love it!! I did not think I would like it as much as I do, but it is alot better than I thought it would be. I did have to go to the high school for last period...I have decided that I prefer jr high over high school.

I have alot to get done today because we are leaving tomorrow for Oklahoma for my nieces birthday party. Today I have to go get my nails/toes done (a girl does have priorities :) ), go get Roxi's gift, pick up Kristyn's prescription from her drs office, pick the girls up from school, take Ryleigh to softball practice....busy, busy day...so, gotta run......hope everyone has a great day!!

Finally Fall

YEA!! It is finally somewhat fall here in the Lone Star State of Texas!!! No 100 degree plus temperatures. Although the weather has been kind of nasty with some rain, it is still better than it being hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk. I am hoping to go buy some pretty fall plants to put out on my porch when I get back from Oklahoma. The girls and I are going to be going to my sisters house with my parents and grandparents next weekend for my nieces birthday. Well, this is going to be a short post because tonight is my scrap nite and I am about to leave to go get the girls from school and then come home and pick up the house, but, take a look at my new purse I bought....I am a purse fanatic!!! I love, love, love cute, big purses. I just love it!!!
Disregard the white walls. I hate the walls being white and am hoping to get them painted soon, just can't decide on a color.....

First Photo Shoot

Remember a few posts back when I mentioned that I LOVE photography??? Well, today I had my first "photo shoot". I took my best friends daughters Sr pics for her. I think they turned out pretty good and they were really happy with them. We went to 4 different locations and I ended up taking over 100 pics of Rissa (Marissa is her acutal name). Here are some of them

Blog Hopping

Do you do this or do you just continue to read the same ones? The last few days I have been visiting alot of new blogs and must say that I love to do this. I love to get other peoples takes on different things. There are days when I feel like I have nothing blog about and I SO want to be a good blogger and have all kinds of neat things to say, but the truth be told, my life is just not that interesting. Sure, I love my life and would not trade it or the people in it for the world, but to others, it's a different story. I am a wife and mother first and everything else, well, it is just second. The things that I do for me are simple. I love photography and scrapbooking...WOW!! I have often wondered, "what can I blog about today??" and after blog hopping, I noticed that alot of people get their inspiration for a post from someone elses blog. Hopefully that will help me in the future with ideas for posts.

Where do you get your post ideas from????? Any suggestions???

One Year Ago

I was standing in my driveway wondering where in the world do I begin. My husband was out of state working and Ike had hit the day before. Doodle had left the week before the storm hit when we thought it was going to hit closer to Corpus Christi, the girls and I were safe, we had gone up to his dads to wait out the storm and came home after it had passed and Doodle came home the first chance he got.

We had a yard full of water, limbs, fallen trees and ant beds. Time for the clean up to begin, that afternoon, I loaded up my girls into my truck and headed to Lowes to buy a big garden wagon. I figured that would be the easiest way to start picking up all the limbs and trying to get back to some sense of normal, if not for me and my sanity, I had to do it for my kids. I also had to get a new meter pole and meter box and have someone put them up before I could even think about getting the electricity hooked back up. You see, the top of a pine tree had broken off and fallen into an oak tree which then uprooted and took out the power line that ran to my pole. When the tree landed on the line, it snapped the pole at the ground, and that was just behind my house. On the side of my house and yard, a pine tree fell and landed on the main line that runs the length of the road. We live on 5 acres and in order for the linemen and others to get to us, and the others that live out here by me, the roads had to be cleared. All in all, it was two weeks before we got power, but we were lucky...we have a travel trailer and a generator. I had filled up 5, 5 gallon gas cans the day before Ike hit, so we had an air conditioned place to stay. I had a bed to sleep in and propane to cook with, so I hated complaining. Especially when others had lost absolutely everything. Needless to say, living in South Texas, you know of the possibilities of these types of things happening. Kind of like snowstorms in the North and earthquakes and wildfires in the East. Thankfully, this year has been a quiet hurricane season for everyone in the United States. As I sit here comfortably in the recliner and type this post on my laptop watching the Today show, I can't help but think of all of the people who lost their lives because they chose not to leave or were simply unable to leave. I just hear dlast week where they have found the remains of a victim of Ike who was washed away when the storm hit. God Bless their family and those who are still dealing with their losses.

Photography & Scrapbooking

OK....these are two of my favorite things. I have decided to try to make a little money at doing two of the things that I love. I am signing up this month to become a consultant for Close to my Heart, which is a company that sells scrapbooking products. I have been going to two scrap nights held by ladies in my area and really like their products. I have already talked to a few friends and they have agreed to host a party to get me started. I am also going to try to make a little money at photography. My best friends daughter is a senior this year and I am going to take her senior pictures. Now we just have to coordinate a time. Marissa participates in High School rodeo and has rodeos on the weekend and my Ryleigh has softball tournaments, so we are going to have to find a time when we are both free. I thought about trying to make it to one of her rodeos and get pictures of her in action. That would be pretty neat. I need to get some type of photoshop program and have been looking at the Adobe Photoshop 7. The reviews for it are pretty good. I need somethings to try to keep me busy. I have signed up to substitute teach as well as signed up to be the secretary for the PTO at our primary school. So hopefully, between all of this, I will stay busy and maybe make a little extra money....we will see!!

Labor Day Weekend

This past weekend we went up to our friends (Randy & Linda Bird) house and visited with them and their son Brett and his family. They live on 50+ acres and have a beautiful place. I love going up there and wish we lived closer. I must say it was the most relaxing weekend I have had in a long time. We went to church, ate and just hung around outside. Doodle had brought some of the fish that he had caught and cooked them Sunday evening. They were really good. The girls enjoyed playing with Jackson and Kelton and riding around on Uncle Randy and Aunt Linda's golf cart. Ryleigh rode Jackson's little tractor until I thought the wheels were going to fall off. We hated to leave, but all good things must come to and end. It takes us 5 hours pulling the trailer and my allergies had started bothering me yesterday morning and only got worse as we drove home. Needless to say I was glad to get home and looking forward to going inside, watching some wrestling and laying around. Yes, I watch wrestling...it is just a given that on Monday night at 8:00, Doodle and I watch wrestling together. I know, how romantic. However, when we got inside it was 99 degrees in the house. Sometime over the weekend, the outside unit decided to quit working!!! UUUGGGHHH! Thank goodness we have the trailer, we just all loaded back into it and slept another night. I am waiting for the AC guy to get here now to see what the deal is. I am PRAYING that we do not have to buy another unit....On that note, I will leave you with some pics that I took of the girls while I was sitting on Randy and Linda's porch enjoying the day and the view....
Ryleigh riding the tractor...

Kristyn just sitting in the front yard....

One of their many horses...I think between Rand, Linda, Brett & Rachel, they have around 15.
The church that Randy and Linda started, Higher Trails Cowboy Church. It is right across the street from their place.
I will leave you with one more pic. Yesterday before we left to come home, we all went to Chic-fil-a to eat lunch. Ryleigh had gotten a kids meal and inside the kids meal was some kind of secret decoder and a book. Now, tell me, how many GROWN MEN does it take to figure out a toy from a kids chic-fil-a meal??? Apparently, it takes 3.

Scrapbooking

I love to scrapbook, however, I don't do it as much as I would like. Well, a couple of weeks ago I started going to a scrapbook get-together with a bunch of ladies from my community. One class meets the 2nd Friday of each month and the other one meets the 4th Friday of the month. Let me just say....I LOVE THIS!!!! We use the Close to my Heart products and for $5.00 we make a two page layout. I love it so much that next month I am going to sign up to be a consultant. I can't wait!! I have already got two people who said that they will host a party. I am hoping to start a Hostess Club where 12 people agree to "host" a month where we will get together and make a two page layout. Each hostess that signs up will agree to spend at least $25.00 a month and whoever is hosting that particular month will get all the benefits from the sales at that particular gathering. All they have to do is provide snacks and drinks. This gives me something to do and gets me out of the house for a couple of hours a few times a month. Here are a few of the layouts that we have done so far.

This one is actually turned sideways in this picture....it should be straight up and down...

School Supplies and Brownies

I just spent about 3 hours looking for these

tabbed dividers WITH pockets. Kristyn needed these for her math class. I went to 5 different stores trying to find them. I finally found them at an office supply store in Baytown...the last package. I love to buy school supplies...all the cute folders, notebooks, pencils....but having to go to 5 different stores for tabbed index dividers with pockets is a little excessive. I think that for the hard to find items (12x18 manilla paper, graph paper with 1 cm squares, etc) the school should order them and let the parents pay the school. But that is just my opinion. So, after 1/2 day looking for these little jewels, I think I will eat one, maybe two of these...

I made these for the girls yesterday. I was going to do it the day before, but got sidetracked. Anyway, they turned out REALLY good. The girls were really excited about them when they got home yesterday. Well, I need to put up all the clothes that I washed and folded yesterday and maybe do a little scrapbooking before the girls get home. Have a blessed day!

First Day of School

Today was the first day of school for the girls. It is so hard to believe that Kristyn is now in 6th grade...Jr High :( and Ryleigh is in 2nd grade. We went last week to the Meet the Teacher and Kristyn seems to have gotten alot of good teachers and Ryleigh has the same teacher that Kristyn had in the 2nd grade. Not to mention her teacher knows her from when she was in daycare....not sure if that is a good thing or not...lol.
After I dropped them off, I ran some errands and came home and cleaned up around here from this morning....now it is sooooo quiet around here. I am not used to this. I miss them already. I think I will make them some brownies for when they get home. I am so excited to hear all about their day!!! I take pictures of them every year on the first day of school. Here are the ones from today....

Last Friday a friend and I took 10 kids to the Bluebell Creamery in Brenham and took the tour. It was not all that I thought it would be and I would not drive another 2 hours to go see it. It took us 2 hrs to get there, then we had to wait another hour before our tour started and the tour only lasted 30 minutes.....we were all like,"is that it???" Here are some pics from that day.

Well, only 3 more hours until they get out of school......better get the brownies done!!
Stay Blessable!

Bellaire Softball Tournament

Sunday was the first ball tournament for Ryleigh's select team, the Ball Hawgs. It was such a long day. Her first game was at 8:00 am and we had to leave the house at 5:45 that morning. They played 4 games that day, we finally left the ball field around 5:30, I think. Here are some pics from that day.
